Focusing on concept albums set in a
technologically advanced future, 1974 crafts a musically diverse and dynamic soundscape full of riffs, hooks, and vocal harmony to tell complex stories.
In 2012, the band won "Best New Band" at the 1st Annual CT Music Awards at The Bushnell Theater. The following year, the band won "Best Rock Band".

Ein so seltsames Album ist mir lange nicht mehr untergekommen. Der Track „Blood Of The Rose“ lässt den Hörer die Stirn in Falten ziehen. Eine zuckersüße, liebliche, kitschige Melodie dringt an das Ohr des Hörers. So säuselt der Song eine Weile vor sich hin, bis er plötzlich etwa bei Halbzeit (es handelt sich um einen 10minüter) komplett die Stimmung wechselt und plötzlich mit zupackender Gitarre und Sprech-Gesang in einen floydige Bluesrock-Hymne umschlägt... sehr kurios! Tired of prog monotony? This album might spark your interest again! It's really much better than I'd expected... I was afraid that this 2-hour mammut, starting out with three 21-minute epics, might turn out to be a real horror show. However, it's quite a diverting opus, mainly due to Ian Gordon being a very gifted and versatile composer, who is aquainted with several diverse genres. On this album, clever songwriting meets massive (and most of the time typically "proggy") arrangements, heavy on vintage keyboards and roaring guitars.
